The Nigeria Police has said that the restriction of movement during the Saturday April 9, election will remain in force till the end of the elections.

A statement issued by the police says that for the purpose of compliance and enforcement, movement is restricted from 10pm of Friday the 8 of April, 2011 to 6am of Saturday 9th April, 2011 and continues from 8am to 6pm on Saturday 9 April, 2011 within the voting areas and centres.

The statement adds that this restriction order is to enable law enforcement agents monitor the activities of miscreants, thugs and other criminal elements who may intend to use the cover of darkness to interrupt the smooth conduct of the elections.

Persons on essential duties and INEC officials are however exempted from this restriction order as they will be properly identified with their identity card.

The police says that it will not condone any act or conduct that is detrimental to the smooth conduct of the election as any trouble makers will be arrested and dealt with according to the law.

The Nigeria Police has also assured all Nigerians that all law enforcement agents are working in collaboration to ensure violence free and fair elections.

The force is also advising all eligible voters to go out and cast their votes without fear of molestation, and they are also enjoined to leave the immediate voting vicinity and allow their various party agents to take care of protecting and watching all vote cast until they are duly counted and recorded by the INEC officials.
