As for the office of the SGF, there are speculations that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is strongly pushing for the former transport Minister Ojo Maduekwe to clinch it.

However, investigations reveals that governors from the zone who allegedly warned Obasanjo to steer clear and allow the zone produce the Speaker, would rather the position is given to the former Senate President Chief Anyim Pius Anyim. The choice of Anyim is equally more generally acceptable from the people of the region.
