Can the North Survive without Niger Delta (Oil).?

Yes, the North (and any other part for that matter) can survive without the Niger Deltan oil. What they will only need to do is cut their coat according to their cloth. Afterall, there are landlocked countries in Africa, which have no oil, and are surviving even better than us in Nigeria. Moreover, necessity is the mother of invention. Before oil, we survived on agriculture and non-oil minerals (which the North has in abundance). After oil, we shall even get wiser by looking for other means of survival. It could even be better for the North or any other non-oil producing areas, as corruption will be drastically "cut to size".

Indeed, I suggest that we immediately sterilize all the oil money in a special foreign account, and start living off non-oil revenues only. You would be surprised how fast we shall regain our sanity of the olden regional days. Oil is good, but we have abused it, and it has turned a curse.

Yes,the North can survive without the Niger delta and other Oils.Oil is not the only thing that keep a country.

The Minster of Information and communications, Mr Labaran Maku has said it will be difficult for the North to survive without the resources from the Niger Delta. He stressed that except Kano,no state in the North had the capacity to conveniently pay the salaries of its civil servants without resorting to the monthly allocation of the Federal Government, which was largely proceeds from the oil derived from the N'Delta.

there are several factors which either the Minister is not aware of or is totally ignorant about. It may be hard going for the first two years, but thereafter, the North can survive without Niger Delta oil. Compared to other regions in the country, the North has very few people used to the 'global village' life. The vast majority has been as it was, and it is the one sustaining the region and most others agriculturally. Besides, the large civil service is a political creation. You can easily undo most of that creation and necessity will fill the other vacuum like joblessness. Believe it or not, the down trodden in all parts of Nigeria are the most patient people on earth and they are survivors. In this the North has the majority.

I think Northern Nigeria can survive through Agriculture and other sectors without no support from Niger/Delta resources.
People of Nigerians listen, For a region to have a large land for Agriculture, is a benefit from God which can huge them good profit and good standard of living.
for example History of Egypt about food supply; during Ancient(those) days Egypt reserve consumption resources for their people in order to satisfy them, and people of the world benefited from it also, and this enable them to be happy and glad to a Man named Joseph, Joseph gave good Ideal and good thought.
Northern can survive without no responsibilities from the Nigerdelta region.
Due to high speed Bad leadership northern part i.e 90% leaders, northerners can not survive.
but due human capacity and sensibilities, northern can survive if they are 80-90% well educated.
Northern solution is in the hands of Nigeria.
if there are persons which can perform more than people like Joseph, Late chief Awolowo, late chief Murtala Muhammed. Nothern can survive.

can Southwest survive without no Nigerdelta.
can Southeast also survive

I think the point is not whether one part of the country can do or otherwise without the other, the issue to me is that talking rationally no single tree has ever made a forest. and i am saying this not that i think the north would be worse off without the oil money that comes every month as grant from Federal govt much of which by the way get stolen by our kleptomaniac so-called leaders. chinex should first of all remember that Nigeria existed b4 the discovery of the oil and should be reminded that the extraction of the oil was done using the resources from the agriculture-driven economy of the then Nigeria most of which came from the north. and just like malam sanusi said not every hamlet should expect to have oil wells. so please what we need is a total change in our cognitive style i mean our ways of thinking about Nigeria.

Yes,Northerners can survive without the Niger Delter oil bcoz as u asserted dat even Niger Delter Residents do not benefit from It.If u can remember it was through farming that refineries were established.In the history of Nigeria,the primary source of earning is Farming.It is the North that is blessed with fertile agricultural Land rendering the Natives to produce high quality and quantitave food for survival and needs satisfactions.Let me ask you is it our crude oil that we use for operating our machines?or it is being imported after refining it.It is reimported.So without the Niger Delter the Northerners can also import oil and use it.Secondly all the food items such as Rice,pepe,Beans,Millet,Maize,Dates,Guinea corn,Groundnut,wheat,Animals such as Sheeps,cattles,goats and camels,and also an important raw material cotton as well as horns,hides and skins are all provided by Northern people.But if i can mention some from South I could say:Yam though we too(North) have it in plenty in places such as Jigawa,cassava we hav also,Coco yam,we too have it,Gharri,plantain,These are the top class food southern have.Some and most of which are carbohydrate which is not good for our body to lack balanced diet,k lets go.They also have palm oil and we have gnut oil,we have enough fruits they have trace.And as I said B4 we supply Animals to them,if we cease from providing them are they turning to be canibals as alternative? or they will start slaughtering their Dogs and pigs.And if we sell petol(Nigeria unite) we get money,and we use money to buy food vice verser.So we can survive since we have the food.And right now petrol was Discovered in Kukawa-Borno state so what next?.
