Default Single six-year term for the president and state governors: Feasable?

The single term issue has surfaced again. President Jonathan mooted the issue at his party's NEC meeting, where he took the trouble to explain in detail that he has no intention of being a beneficiary to any elongation of his current tenure, but was simply bringing up what was discussed by all political parties with legislative seats, excepting the ACN during 'YarAdua's tenure. The idea will follow due process before any action by NASS.( GUARDIAN, LEADERSHIP OF FRI. JULY 29].
This is another challenge to us at the Forum. WHICH WAY FORWARD?

I was watching how others especially the opposition parties are shooting it down and calling it devilish, then I wonder if we all have look beyond " Jonathan want to stay in power longer " to the benefit of such to our nation.
As short sighted as I may be, i think we should all look beyond the ruling party to the future, for all you cares, tomorrow another party will be the ruling party. The single term has worked for the Nigerian universities vice- chancellors and I think we should look into it beyond thinking an individual or party want to elongate their stay in power, NO MATTER HOW A MAN HOLD ON TO THE SEAT OF POWER, HE CAN NOT STAY THERE FOREVER, ONE DAY, IF HE DID NOT LEAVE POWER, POWER WILL LEAVE HIM.

Although, at the same time, I must confess, I am yet to see much sense in the single term proposal.

    I was born A Nigerian.
    I'm Proud of it.
I am a die Hard Fan of Nigeria.

    I am A Nigerian.

People, lets reason this out based on economic fact rather than emotions.

One of the Key reasons why the United state's $ is the considered the most stable yard-stick fot international exchange is based on the stability of their economy.

Measuring the stability of their economy has less to do with whether the have financial crises, terrorist attacks, natural disasters and are import dependent or not, and more to do with the predictability of the enforcement of Government policies and bills once they are passed, no matter the new party or person in power, Implementation is standard. So individuals, investors, alliances and indeed the world, can plan for the next 5 years and expect little variation from the forecast.

Thus, i do not think that there is any sincerity of purpose driving this new 'propaganda', infact i believe that, based on historical political strategy, this is just another give-a-dog-a-bone move to ensure that Nigerian have something to chew on, while our leaders make away with our funds, resources and our children's future.

The president is a complete Fraud. I regreted the very day i cast my vote for him.....tenure elongation first agenda! did he say that during is campaign? 2nd Agenda, prisoner exchange deal that President Jonathan has foolishly accepted, All for him to release James Ibori who has defrauded Delta state over billions, And even if the deal works? does nigeria have good prisons? Jonathan is not capable to rule Nigeria, no idea, lacks wisdom....

thank God for Nigeria. With the kind of rulers we have had, it is amazing that anything works at all. what could be more myopic and irrelevant than Mr. President's six year tenure proposal in the face of the huge problems Nigeria has? In any case, any typical Nigerian politician who knows that he has only one single tenure and does not need to impress anyone as he cannot come back anyway, wont he loot with all his power and might?I just dont see the wisdom in the proposal

I don't think the president should be saying this kind of a thing at this moment bcus the 4years term giving to them what good did they bringout instead corruption keep multiplying everyday,i think is the plan of the PDP so that they can store more money for there family since they know that, they are not going back there again(we say know to that). I think jonathan should concentrate more on: Education,Electricity, job creation, poverty and how to improve the standard living of the country instead of single term. Thanks and i love felicia

i think personal it not possible for dr jonathan to benefit from it,it a great development considering the amount of capital cost of conducting election every four years and disactraction of incubent who believe the first term is for tutorial.it a good step but i think a new constitution is the key to our development in this nation

    Default It's good

The idea is good. However, the sincerity of Mr. President about the idea could not be guaranted. We pray it's not OBJ or IBB style. Mr.President is doing everything possible to realise this. I am in support of this idea because six years is enough for a serious person to perform wonders. Even if GEJ benefits from this, i know he will surely leave one day; since Lybians are now celebrating the end of Gadafi. Let's give GEJ a chance to dance, while playing the role of active observant. Long live Nigeria.

four years tenure of trouble, they are planing to extend it to six years, what have we done to deserve this from these set of people that eat us from the back. Mr. President the years you spent as Vice what have you used it to do, now you want to extend your tenure, dont tell us that, your years as vice is it follow-follow years?, haven't you seen or known what the country needs to grow, can't you do something within the four years you have, even if you can only tackle one major problem facing this country, find solution to it and leave, you can only set a legacy for others to follow. the extension will not work only if God want it, Mr. P may God help you to sustain the country
