ABUJA-The Senate is to take a decision on approving or rejecting President Goodluck Jonathan’s request for the removal of oil subsidy in November, it emerged yesterday.

The decision was reached following a meeting between principal officials of the National Assembly, committee chairmen on one part and members of the Economic Team on the other.

The meeting, which was at the instance of the Presidency was originally called to brief the lawmakers on the fundamentals of the 2012 budget.

The meeting, Vanguard learnt, however, subsequently centered on the issue of subsidy of petroleum products which President Jonathan has insisted should be removed.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, who disclosed the outcome of the interaction to newsmen, yesterday, said that a decision whether to approve the subsidy removal or not will be taken until after Jonathan had presented the 2012 budget to National Assembly in November.

He said, “Yesterday, chairmen from both the Senate and the House of Representatives met with Mr President and the economic team and they had an interaction on the medium term fiscal framework for four years.
