Default Yaradua Mets With Oyedepo,Kure and Onaiyekan (Christian Leaders).

ABUJA (Reuters) – Nigeria's ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua, who has not been seen in public in five months, prayed with Christian leaders at his residence in the capital Abuja on Monday, his second meeting with religious leaders in five days.

Yar'Adua's inner circle of aides, led by his wife Turai, have started to allow select groups of guests to meet with the president, who remains too sick to govern.

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, who has assumed executive powers in Yar'Adua's absence, and other top political leaders have yet to meet with the president since he returned from hospital in Saudi Arabia two months ago.

Pastor Emmanuel Kure, leader of the Throneroom Trust Ministry in Kaduna state, said Yar'Adua prayed with him and three other Christian leaders for about 10 minutes at his home.

"The prayer was for the Lord to perfect his healing," Kure said, adding that he was invited by Yar'Adua on Saturday.

He declined to elaborate on the meeting or discuss Yar'Adua's health. "I do not want to get involved in the politics. It is not my place," Kure said.

The president also prayed with four senior Islamic clerics at his residence last Thursday.

Ustaz Musa Mohammed, the chief imam of Nigeria's National Mosque, said the president had some difficulty speaking on Thursday but he believed Yar'Adua would recover from his illness.

    UPDATE

There was confusion on Monday as clerics made conflicting statements on a purported visit to ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua.

While one Pastor Emmanuel Kure of Throneroom Trust Ministry, Kaduna claimed that a team of Christian leaders received invitations to visit Yar’Adua, the Christian Association of Nigeria said no such request had been extended to the CAN....

....When contacted, Onaiyekan said that CAN leadership had not been invited to pray for Yar’Adua.

Onaiyekan, who made this known in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja, however, said that CAN would accept such invitation if formally channelled.

He said, “I have not got any such formal invitation. I am only hearing rumours but no formal invitation has got to us.

“If they bring the right kind of invitation, we would of course go. They should send us an invitation, but I have not got any invitation. I am hearing rumours just like you, and it is not fair.

“There is a Christian chaplain in the Villa and he is not aware of any move in this direction.

“They should know how to invite people.”

He further explained that Christians had been praying for the ailing President all this while, advising that the issue of prayers should not be turned into propaganda.

He said, “As for prayers for the President, you know we have been praying for him, even during this Easter period we have been praying for the President.

“If they are inviting people, it should not be a matter that should become a propaganda issue.

“I do not think that prayer should be a matter for politicking. Let the politicians do their things and leave us alone. As for prayers, we are praying both for Yar’Adua, the Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and the nation.

“Prayer is between you and your God. There should not be any difficulty at all in sending out an invitation.”

Onaiyekan also clarified that CAN had not refused to accept an invitation from the family of the President.

He said, “I heard that some newspapers reported that CAN refused an invitation.

“But it is not true. How can we refuse what we have not received. If I get the proper invitation, if they invite me personally as Oniyekan, if I am free and I would want to be sure who is inviting me anyway.”

Oyedepo also denied being on the delegation to the Villa on Monday.

    MORE UPDATE
Intrigues over Yar'Adua's 'meeting with Christian clerics'

INTRIGUES and subterfuge over the state of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's health continued yesterday as the nation was enveloped by stories that he reportedly met with some Christian leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday evening.

Reports had it that a Catholic Archbishop led the group of clerics that saw the ailing President.

However, a senior pastor at the Living Faith Church Worldwide, who craved anonymity, said Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church who was rumoured to be on the entourage actually spent the day ministering at his church's Easter Youth Camp programme at Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State and therefore could not have been in Abuja.

    UPDATE
The Presiding Bishop, Living Faith World Outreach Ministries, Dr. David Oyedepo, has said his visit to ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua on Monday is a personal issue that is not meant for public consumption.

Oyedepo, who spoke at the thanksgiving service for the 54th birthday anniversary of the Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in Abeokuta on Tuesday, denied giving details of the visit, insisting that the visit was a personal one.

Unlike the Islamic clerics, who visited the President last week and confirmed shaking Yar’Adua twice, the Bishop of the LFWOM, a.k.a. Winners Chapel, refused to confirm to newsmen whether the four-man Christian delegation saw the President, whom had not been seen in public since he returned to the country in the dead of the night in February.

Asked whether the team, led by the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop John Onaiyekan, saw Yar’Adua, Oyedepo said, “Yes, it is true (visit). The visit is personal but I don’t owe any public explanation on the visit.
