The Senate on Wednesday adopted the harmonized report of the two chambers of the National Assembly on the bill for the second alteration of the 1999 Constitution.

The harmonising committee which was set up late last week at the senate submitted its report on Tuesday. Subsequently, the report was adopted the following day.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Senate committee on the harmonization of the report, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba told the lawmakers that both chambers passed the same versions of the bill in clauses 1, 2,3,4,5 dealing with time extension for the conduct of the 2011 general and the citation of the bill.

However, the the Senate passed clauses 6,7,8,9 and 10, in respect of the reinstatement of governorship election tribunal which was removed in the first alteration of the bill and which was not considered by the House Of Representative.
He added that after deliberations on the amendment, The House Of Representatives adopted the version of the senate in which they differed.

With the adoption of the bill, the 36 state Houses of Assembly will be given copies for concurrence and approval.
