AN attempt to kidnap Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Ben Igbakpa, has been foiled by men of the State Security Service, SSS.

Parading the suspect (names withheld) at the SSS headquarters in Asaba, yesterday, the State Director, F. O. Oghre-Ikanone, said the 34- year-old commercial motorcycle rider, resident in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state, “was arrested in connection with sending threat sms to kidnap and assassinate one Frank Ekpen Olu and Ben Igbakpa, Commissioner for Transport, Delta State.”

He said another suspect (names withheld), aged 38, was also “arrested for sending threat to life sms to Omordi George Ugbomah, a former Commissioner in Delta State.”

Speaking to newsmen, the suspect said he used to run errands for Ugbomah, adding that it was the devil that pushed him into the crime and begged officials of the Service for forgiveness.

It was gathered that the suspect had allegedly demanded N20 million from Ugbomah in the said threat sms.
