The Adamawa State Police Command has issued a certificate of commendation and cash reward of N200,000 to Mr Habila Adamu, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Demsa police headquarters in Demsa Local Government area of the state. He got the honour for his gallant performance during the last Tuesday attack by unidentified gunmen on his duty post during which a police corporal, Lukman Abdulahi, attached to the station was killed.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr Aderele Shinaba yesterday described the DPO as a courageous man for mobilising his men to confront the attackers and promised that his command would soon reward some of its men that foiled a robbery attempt on Wednesday night at a filling station in Yola, the state capital.
It would be recalled that in the wee hours of Tuesday, Demsa Police divisional headquarters came under heavy attack by unknown gunmen believed to be members of the dreaded Islamic militant group, Boko Haram. The state Police Commissioner while addressing newsmen said he was impressed with the gallant manner with which the men of Demsa Police Station handled the insurgency which led to the death of one of the attackers while the other ran away.
