Air Nigeria Finance Director Arrested - SFU... $100,000 Discovered

The former finance director of Air Nigeria, John Nnorom was yesterday detained by officers of the Special Anti Fraud Unit, SFU, of the Nigeria Police in Lagos. Nnorom was arrested at his residence yesterday morning and taken to the Milverton Road office of the SFU where he is being detained. The former director has been under investigation for allegedly stealing the sum of $100,000 from his employers and has refused to honour police invitation over the case.

Investigators handling the case have accused Nnorom of being uncooperative and abu-sive when he was finally tracked down on phone.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the SFU, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin told National Mirror, that Nnorom will be detained until all enquiries have been exhausted and will be charged to court thereafter.

He also added that despite the fact that he has refunded the money in question, an offence has been committed and that due process will have to be followed in the matter as the money will serve as an exhibit in court.

“We picked him up in his house this morning (Tuesday) and we are questioning him at the moment. Since he has refused to honour invitations, we will detain him until we have finished investigations into the matter and then charge him to court.

“The question of whether he has refunded the money has nothing to do with this. An offence has been committed and the law has to take its course. The money will serve as an exhibit in court,” he said.

It will be recalled that trouble started for Nnorom when he diverted his employer’s funds into his personal foreign exchange business via a Bureau De Change which he operates.

He refunded the money after the police had been invited into the matter, but has refused to respond to several invitations from the unit.
