Dr Ade Abolurin, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Monday in Abuja distributed operational vehicles to states and zonal commands of the organisation.
He said at the ceremony that the vehicles were to enhance the operations of the officers in the states and zonal commands across the country.
Abolurin also urged recently re-deployed officers and beneficiaries of the vehicles to ensure effective coverage of their areas.
He said, “We provided the vehicles in order to enhance the performance of the officers, as well as boost their morale.
“We want to ensure that the officers are comfortable and equipped to do their work. By doing this, we expect them to fight crime to the barest in their areas of coverage.
“By extension, this means that Nigerians will now go to sleep comfortably. Insecurity will drop with the greatest security coverage.’’
The commandant-general, who did not disclose the number of the vehicles, urged the officers to see themselves as servants out to serve the nation.
Abolurin tasked them to be good ambassadors of the corps and to always remember that many leaders failed when they allowed arrogance, pride and selfishness to rule their sense of reasoning.
The NSCDC boss also called on the public to be security-conscious and to be alert and report suspicious persons to the nearest formation of the corps for prompt action.
