Two separate bomb blasts have rocked parts of Jos, the Plateau state capital, in Nigeria’s North Central region.

The first blast occurred at about 9.30 pm yesterday in Angwan Rimi area while another exploded along Sarki Mangu street at about 6.30 am today

A statement issued by the Plateau State Police Commissioner, Dipo Ayeni, says that a blast from a suspected improvised explosive device placed in empty ground oil can at about 9:30pm Saturday night occurred near the house of a prominent Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Saidu Hassan Jingir.

The statement however says that no lives were lost but that a taxi cab parked nearby had its window glass shattered.

The second blast according to the Police Boss occurred at Sarkin Mangu in the early hours of today at the residence of national leader of the Jama’Atul Izalatul Bid’ah wa Ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Sani Yahya Jingir.

The Police have drafted the anti-bomb squad to the scenes of the incident to ascertain the materials used while investigations are ongoing.

No group has claimed responsibilities for the explosions.
