when family of eight comprising of a father, mother and six children have been killed in a midnight attack by suspected pastorals in Tatu village of Heipang District of Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state, North Central Nigeria.

Chairman of the local government, Emmanuel Dacholom Lomang described the attack as barbaric and according to him, "inhuman for anyone or a group of people to embark on a killing spree of this magnitude by wiping out an entire family in cold blood".

Two weeks before this fresh wave of murder, another family was murdered in the same local government area; this is giving indigenes of the locality concern over their safety as the activities of the marauders are becoming rampant.

A Plateau state House of Assembly member representing Barking Ladi Constituency, Gyang Fulani believes that the collaborative efforts of ‘Operation Rainbow’ and security agents in the state should be heightened for effective security in various communities attacked by these assailants.

Condemning the frequent attacks on the people, national president of Berom Youth Movement, Francis Jamang expressed concern on the motive of the attackers that is targeted at a family with children and women not being spared.

The youth leader also appealed to governments at the state and federal level to urgently address the security challenge in the local government area before youths in the area will lose confidence and resort to self-defence.

Meanwhile, an undetonated explosive device was found in Riyom local government area of Plateau state on Sunday.
The improvised explosive device neatly packaged in a gallon of vegetable oil at the Makera market at Rahoss in Riyom local government was discovered by members of the community who alerted the anti -bomb squad.

The deadly tool had been taken home by an unsuspecting trader who later alerted other members of the community when who called in the police.

Eyewitnesses say the timed bomb planted at the centre of the market was still intact but the weak batteries prevented the mechanism from exploding.

The Plateau state commissioner for Information and Communications, Abraham Yiljap while inspecting the scene where the improvised explosive device was discovered condemned the act, noting that the damage to lives and property would have been disastrous if the bomb was successfully detonated.

He urged citizens to intensify their efforts in internal security and be conscious of their surroundings through adequate vigilance and surveillance.
