A woman was found dead in her Columbia home Monday afternoon and investigators believe domestic violence may have led to her murder.

44-year-old Michael Kenneth Peterson is accused of killing his wife, 54-year-old Brenda Witherspoon.

The Columbia Police Department say Witherspoon was found around 12:00 p.m. by a family member in her home on English Ave. near Two Notch Rd.

According to police, Peterson was arrested after being seen walking in the Covenant/Two Notch Road area around 4:00 p.m.

Richland county Coroner Gary Watts says Witherspoon was stabbed in the neck.
