The alleged mastermind of Christmas Day 2011 bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State, Kabiru Umar (aka Kabiru Sokoto), was yesterday declared wanted by the police.

Sokoto was arrested at the Borno State Government Lodge, Abuja, last Saturday. He escaped on Sunday when he was being taken for a search on his house in Abaji, near Abuja. About 10 policemen, who were taking him there were confronted by youths of the town who freed him, Force spokesman, Olusola Amore, a Deputy Commissioner, said in a statement yesterday.

Kabiru Umar, who hails from Biu, Borno State, was last known to be residing at Bulletin Quarters, Abaji, FCT. He is aged 28 years, fair in complexion and speaks English, Hausa and Arabic languages fluently.

“The Nigeria Police has, therefore, placed a monetary reward of N50 million for any one, who has useful information, regarding whereabouts of the suspect or that will lead to his arrest, should please report to the nearest Police Station nationwide,” the statement noted.
