The Borno State government has paid N9.750 million to assist Christian victims of the Boko Haram crisis in Maiduguri and Jere local government areas of the state, with each family getting N250,000 each to alleviate their immediate problems.
Presenting the relief to the victims at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Government House, Maiduguri, the state deputy governor, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, who is also the chairman of the committee set up to assess and assist the victims, said the token was to assist the victims, as nobody could replace lost human lives.
Mustapha said a lot of processes were followed before arriving at the list of the beneficiaries, and urged them to see what happened to them as an act of God.
He also used the occasion to call on the members of the Boko Haram sect to lay down their arms and embrace dialogue with the government, so that peace would return to the state and the country at large.
