Default Robbers Raid Banks, Injure Policemen

Our security men needs to brace up.See thi report

ARMED robbers Thursday terrorized residents of Oyo town as they fired shots arbitrarily when robbing three commercial banks where they allegedly made away with undisclosed sum of money.

Though, no one was reportedly killed during the shooting spree, many people including some policemen from the Osun State Police Command were said to have sustained gun shot injuries.

In an operation that reportedly lasted 45 minutes, the dare-devil robbers were said to have blocked major highways and sacked all motorists to enable them carry out their illegal acts.

According to an eyewitness, many customers of the three commercial banks were held hostage. But the Oyo State Police Command noted that the robbers were prevented from robbing two other banks, adding that they only robbed a bank.

The robbers would have had a successful operation if the police had not responded swiftly and confronted them. During the gun duel, Vanguard gathered that there was stampede as people ran in different directions to escape being victims.

The Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, Miss Olabisi Okuwobi, confirmed the robbery attack, adding that the police should be given kudos for the way they forced the robbers to retreat.

The story saddened me when I first learnt of it in the press. Oyo, my home town, used to be noted for being innocent and peaceful. Pity we can't eat our cake and have it. Urbanization comes with its associated problems, including violent crimes. May God touch the hearts of criminals so that we can have a better society.
