A Police sergeant whose name has not yet been disclosed, shot his Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and immediately shot himself as well in Bebeji town, about 100 kilometers from Kano.

But the DPO was lucky, as he did not die and is now receiving treatment in a private hospital.

The incident, a source said, occurred between 4-5pm on Saturday, although he did not state the reason why the sergeant committed the act.

The source added that after the sergeant shot the DPO on the chest, he thought the officer had died, and then turned the gun on himself.

Another source said that the two had been having a misunderstanding for some time.

The Kano State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Baba Muhammed Azare, confirmed the incident . He said the police has commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident.
