Default One Shot as Robbers Terrorise Abaji,Abuja Residents

Dare-devil armed robbers Sunday night laid siege around the premises of the Junior/Senior FCDA Staff Quarters in Abaji and shot one person in the stomach.

Before the attack, thieves have for the past three months been terrorizing residents of the area, while in July last year they invaded the quarters and disposessed residents of valuables as well as money.

A witness said the sound of gunshots at 10:12pm made residents of the area panic and they mobilized with weapons to scare the robbers.

"The residents blew whistles for about 20 minutes, which attracted three mobile policemen to the scene.

The injured victim (names withheld), who is recuperating at a hospital in Gwagwalada, said five robbers wearing black clothes scaled through the fence of his master's apartment at about 9:47pm.

According to him, after they scaled the fence, they entered a room in the building, broke a bottle on his head and ordered that he takes them to his master's bedroom so that he whill show them where money is kept.

"Before I realized what was happening, they shot twice at me after breaking the bottle on my head, locked me inside the room and later headed straight to my boss' apartment," the victim said.

He said he managed to jump of out of a window and rushed to INEC office to seek help from the security personnel in the premises.

Corroborating the victim's statement, his boss (names withheld) said he left his parlour after watching network news to take his bath, when he heard a scream from outside the compound.

The boss said he immediately looked out of the window to see some armed robbers and raised an alarm when they were struggling with the burglary proof in front of his kitchen's door.

He said the robbers ran away and he rushed his staff to Abaji General Hospital that night and he was referred to another hospital Gwagwalada the following morning.

When contacted, Abaji Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Adepegba Adetoye, confirmed the incident and said immediately the distress call was received, he mobilized his men to the crime scene.

He said the police are making all efforts to apprehend the fleeing robbers.

City News further reports that two medicine stores located within the metropolis of the council were raided yesterday night by suspected robbers.

The Abaji Police at least responded. In my area, the robbers would spend hours operating and calls for help to the Police amount to nothing. When they answer they tell you tales of woo. If they show up at all, it would be hours after the robbers departed.
