Ibadan — Oyo State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Baba Adisa Bolanta, yesterday said from April last year to date, 14 policemen were killed in the state in a shoot-out with robbers.

Bolanta , who addressed journalists in Ibadan, said the police also arrested 408 armed robbers with over 2,000 ammunition recovered during the period under review. According to the commissioner, property worth N34 million was also lost.

On the recurring crisis in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, he said the police was only doing its job.

"We are not partial and we are not taking sides. We have all along been abiding by the constitution in our response to issues. No one can intimidate us for performing our duties as dictated by the constitution," he said.

Bolanta also paraded some criminals, who were arrested recently in the state. They include four bank robbers, who were said to have been part of the group that carried out the May 20 operation, where several banks in the state were attacked. He added that the four suspects, Amaechi Egbo, Uchenna Asika, Osita Ekweme and Uchenna Okorie, who had already confessed to the crime would be charged to court soon.
