The Customs Command in the northern Nigerian State of Kano has impounded a pistol concealed in a consignment at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano.

The Command also arrested a suspect, a clearing agent and handed him over to the police for further investigations

This is coming just days after a large cache of fire arms were impounded by operatives of the State Security Service SSS in at the Apapa Ports in Lagos.

The Customs Controller in charge of Kano/Jigawa Command Mr Tukura Haruna Danladi told newsmen in Kano that customs officers discovered the pistol while examining a container at the airport.

He says his officers on duty, discovered the pistol, which according to him, was neatly concealed in a case.

He further disclosed that the container bearing the pistol was brought into the country on the 1st of November from the Egyptian Capital, Cairo via a Sudanese aircraft.

The bill of laden, the Customs Controller explains, shows that Nigeria is the destination country.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a clearing agent is allegedly at the centre of the arm trafficking.

The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigations.
