Default NIGERIAN SUICIDE BOMBER;try bombing a plane on Chrismas day.

This is really a bad news, this will ruined our image.

An attempted terrorist attack on a Christmas Day flight began with a pop and a puff of smoke — sending passengers scrambling to subdue a Nigerian man who claimed to be acting on orders from al-Qaida to blow up the airliner, officials and travelers said.

The commotion began as Northwest Airlines Flight 253, carrying 278 passengers and 11 crew members from Amsterdam, prepared to land in Detroit just before noon Friday. Travelers said they smelled smoke, saw a glow, and heard what sounded like firecrackers. At least one person climbed over others and jumped on the man, who officials say was trying to ignite an explosive device.

"It sounded like a firecracker in a pillowcase," said Peter Smith, a passenger from the Netherlands. "First there was a pop, and then (there) was smoke."

Smith said one passenger, sitting opposite the man, climbed over passengers, went across the aisle and tried to restrain the man. The heroic passenger appeared to have been burned.

Afterward, the suspect was taken to a front-row seat with his pants cut off and his legs burned. Multiple law enforcement officials also said the man appeared badly burned on his legs, indicating the explosive was strapped there. The components were apparently mixed in-flight and included a powdery substance, multiple law enforcement and counterterrorism officials said.

The White House said it believed it was an attempted act of terrorism and stricter security measures were quickly imposed on airline travel. Dutch anti-terrorism authorities said the U.S. has asked all airlines to take extra precautions on flights worldwide that are bound for the United States.

The incident was reminiscent of Richard Reid, who tried to destroy a trans-Atlantic flight in 2001 with explosives hidden in his shoes, but was subdued by other passengers.

Multiple law enforcement officials identified the suspect in Friday's attempted attack as Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab. He was described as Nigerian.

One law enforcement official said the man claimed to have been instructed by al-Qaida to detonate the plane over U.S. soil, but other law enforcement officials cautioned that such claims could not be verified immediately, and said the man may have been acting independently — inspired but not specifically trained or ordered by terror groups.

All the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was continuing.

Intelligence and anti-terrorism officials in Yemen said they were investigating claims by the suspect that he picked up the explosive device and instructions on how to use it in that country. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

The man was being questioned Friday evening. An intelligence official said he was being held and treated in an Ann Arbor, Mich., hospital. The hospital said one passenger from the flight was taken to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, but referred all inquiries to the FBI.

Melinda Dennis, who was seated in the front row of the plane, said the man involved was brought to the front row and seated near her. She said his legs appeared to be badly burned and his pants were cut off. She said he was taken off the plane handcuffed to a stretcher.

One law enforcement official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mutallab's name had surfaced earlier on at least one U.S. intelligence database, but he was not on a watch list or a no-fly list.

The suspect boarded in Nigeria and went through Amsterdam en route to Detroit, Rep. Peter King, the ranking GOP member of the House Homeland Security Committee, told CNN. A spokeswoman for police at the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam declined comment about the case or about security procedures at the airport for Flight 253.

Dutch airline KLM says the connection in Amsterdam from Lagos, Nigeria, to Detroit involves a change in carrier and a change in aircraft.

Schiphol airport, one of Europe's busiest with a heavy load of transit passengers from Africa and Asia to North America, strictly enforces European security regulations including only allowing small amounts of liquid in hand luggage that must be placed inside clear plastic bags.

A spokesman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Akin Olukunle, said all passengers and their luggage are screened before boarding international flights. He also said the airport in Lagos cleared a U.S. Transportation Security Administration audit in November.

"We had a pass mark," Olukunle said. "We actually are up to standards in all senses."

Nigeria's information minister, Dora Akunyili, condemned the attempted bombing. She said the government has opened its own investigation into the suspect and will work with U.S. authorities.

"We state very clearly that as a nation we abhor all forms of violence," Akunyili said in a statement issued Saturday.

London's Metropolitan Police also was working with U.S. officials, said a spokeswoman who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department policy. A search was under way Saturday at an apartment building where Mutallab is said to have lived in a posh West London neighborhood.

University College London issued a statement saying a student named Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab studied mechanical engineering there between September 2005 and June 2008. But the college said it wasn't certain the student was the same person who was on the plane.

Delta Air Lines Inc., which acquired Northwest last year, said a passenger caused a disturbance, was subdued, and the crew requested that law enforcement officials meet the flight.

Passenger Syed Jafri, a U.S. citizen who had flown from the United Arab Emirates, said the incident occurred during the plane's descent. Jafri said he was seated three rows behind the passenger and said he saw a glow, and noticed a smoke smell. Then, he said, "a young man behind me jumped on him."

"Next thing you know, there was a lot of panic," he said.

Federal officials said there would be heightened security for both domestic and international flights at airports across the country, but the intensified levels would likely be "layered," differing from location to location depending on alerts, security concerns and other factors.

Passengers can expect to see heightened screening, more bomb-sniffing dog and officer units and behavioral-detection specialists at some airports, but there will also be unspecified less visible precautions as well, officials said.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., the chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, said in a statement he would hold hearings in January to look into the incident and related security issues.

The FBI and the Homeland Security Department issued an intelligence note on Nov. 20 about the threat picture for the holiday season, which was obtained by The Associated Press. At the time, officials said they had no specific information about attack plans by al-Qaida or other terrorist groups.

President Barack Obama was notified of the incident and discussed it with security officials, the White House said. Officials said he is monitoring the situation and receiving regular updates from his vacation spot in Hawaii.

Saharareporters has identified the family of Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab in Nigeria. The 23 year old would-be bomber of Northwest airline flight 253 is the son of recently retired chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Dr. Umaru Abdul Mutallab.

The father of the bomber, Dr. Muttalab was born in 1939 in Katsina township, the home state of Nigeria’s sickly leader Umaru Musa Yar’adua.

Dr. Muttallab is currently the chairman of Nigeria first Islamic bank, Jaiz International Plc. He sits on the board of the bank with Dr. Rilwan Lukman, the Nigerian minister of Petroleum resources.

The Al-Qaida linked son, Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, is an engineering student at University College London.

Are they really sure it is explosives and not chrismas crackers?.
Can that level or type of explosives bring down the plane?.

It is most unfortunate that such a boy given high class education choose the part of Morons.
He would have been the next Sanusi,El rufai or Ribadu or succeeded his father as Authentic CEO of the Bank, yet he choose to die,If his father has done suicide bombing, would he have been born.Only losers fight by killing themselves,Why not kill and live ,if you still insist on Killing?, Or kill yourself latter. WHAT A GRAND FOOLISHNESS?.WASTED ,WITH SUCH INVESTMENT AND EDUCATION.

    Default The Security Flaws.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the so-called "Nigerian Al-Qaeda Bomber,” set off enough alarms to wake up the international security structure around the world, but they all waved him through to Detroit, a new Saharareporters investigation has revealed. The first flag should have gone off when Umar bought his ticket in Accra, Ghana, on 16 September. Stepping off the street into the KLM offices, he offered no address and no telephone number. In effect, he was a ghost breezing in to buy a ticket to be routed Lagos-Amsterdam-Detroit-Accra. And no, not with a credit or debit card either, and certainly not by a cheque: the foreign national was paying the full price of the ticket—all $2,831 (USD)—in cold, hard, non-ghostly cash.

Sure, why not, said KLM: window or aisle?

The airline then did something even more curious: It did not inform the US authorities despite a standing regulation that all such cash transactions for flights into the country since 911 should be transmitted 30 days before departure. No KLM official reported seeing or doing business with a ghost.

Nigeria’s Minister for Information, Mrs. Dora Akunyili, has stated that Abdulmutallab “sneaked” into Nigeria on the 24th,, the same day he boarded the flight for Detroit via Amsterdam, but that tale is not backed by any concrete evidence. Our sources at the Murtala Muhammad Airport (MMA) in Lagos are categorical Umar did not arrive there on the 24th , neither had he transited from a “3rd country”.

The Lagos KLM office confirmed to us that Abdulmutallab did cancel the ticket he had bought in Ghana on the 16th, rerouting it to Lagos-Amsterdam-Detroit-Lagos. This debunks the initial report that Farouk had bought a one-way ticket to Detroit.

CCTV footage obtained from MMA by government investigators indicates Abdulmutallab personally checked in at 2035 hours (GMT) on Christmas eve, December 24th at the 2nd floor KLM check-in counter. He had no luggage, bearing only a shoulder bag.

Such travelers are not necessarily unusual, but Abdulmutallab was a cash-paying ghost whose own father had earlier confessed his fright and worry to the United States. Traveling with just the smallest of personal cabin bags should have pushed another alarm.

But KLM officials simply scanned Abdulmutalab’s passport and United States of America tourist visa, which was issued in the United Kingdom. They ran him through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and the United States certified he was clean to travel to the country. KLM checked the ghost—who would turn out to have hidden thunder and brimstone in his loins—through to Detroit. For the Amsterdam-Detroit stretch, martyr-to-be Abdulmutallab chose seat 19A, ominously next to the wing and above the aircraft’s fuel tank.

Aviation security sources at the first screening area recall Abdulmutallab as being somewhat nervous and sweaty while he was there; he had joined a VIP lane--perhaps instinctively because that is probably how he had traveled all his life--and had to be told to join the regular line. At this point, said one source, “he left the long queue leading to the immigration/SSS point and visited the former Virgin Atlantic office, returning with a newspaper before presenting himself for screening."

In the departure area, Abdulmutallab’s passport was scanned first by the State Security Service (SSS), which also processed him through the SSS datalist, a document often used by the Nigerian government to stop members of the opposition or people with views contrary to that of the government from entry or exit from Nigeria.

Passing that “test,” Abdulmutallab was then passed on to Nigerian Immigration authorities, which scanned his Nigerian Machine Readable Passport number A3921640. They processed him through the Passenger Registration System, which indicated he posed no security threat and was not listed on any “bar” list.

At the Aviation Security desk, sources and CCTV images indicate that after dropping his shoulder bag on the X-ray screening machine, Abdulmutallab set off the walk-through machine alarm. He was then sent back to remove his sneakers, following which he walked through successfully the second time. Then, in line with standard procedure, he was given a pat down and let go. Curiously, however, the Nigerian aviation officials did not include the setting-off of the alarm in the initial official report.

Also of interest is that sources indicate that an officer of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) briefly spoke to Abdulmutallab in a local language after he left the security screening post. This is common in Nigerian airports, arising from primordial sentiments, class status and in many cases, fragrant violation of security procedures as officials attempt to extort money from air travellers.

At the boarding gate, Abdulumutallab went through a secondary screening, conducted by KLM security, before being allowed into the aircraft en route Amsterdam. His name was included in the post departure manifest under serial number 2 and a secondary detail sent to Amsterdam and the American leg of what would become a historic terror trip.

An evil ghost was on the way, a ghost so dangerous his own father had deemed it fit to warn the United States. Within hours, Abdulumutallab would be in American airspace, the menace from hell ready to burst from his crotch and blow hundreds of innocent people into smoke and ashes.

When the news hit his own country, Nigeria was without a leader because the ‘president,’ who is well-tolerated by the US, has a different set of tubes between his legs in a Saudi hospital. Yar'Adua had been gone for 35 days without a return date in sight, and with nobody knowing his exact physical condition. Worse still, he had not transferred power to his deputy, who went ahead to authorize a high-level investigation that may well be illegal.

It just goes to show that too much of anything is bad. Farouk had everything one could hope for but chose terrorism. On the other hand abject poverty makes parents sell their children for survival. Yet again others take to smuggling cocaine etc to enhance their life style. Still others peddle fake drugs, adultrated palm oil, poisoned beans etc or take to the roads or houses to kill or maim others.America lands on any soil to kill in the name of protecting its people. Israel and even Obasanjo landed and killed where he wanted when he was in power. Unfortunately it is now our lot. Democracy cannot rectify these things or America would have invaded no one. I simply pity the honest businessman who travels abroad, because Farouk has now added to the Nigerian stink.

I don't agree with you that the father is not involved.

How sure are we that the bomb was not even wired from Nigeria, after all he came from Nigeria ,that same day,The CIA should thoroughly investigate and arrest the peole he visited in Nigeria, before bombig my people.

There is so much evidence to link directly,CBN govenor with DR. Umaru Muttallab. And remotely, to the unfolding saga.

Dr Muttallab, you may not know, IS the chief sponsor of the man called Lamido Sanusi. He brought him into the employ of UBA in 1997, and when he became Chairman of First Bank, he again brought in Sanusi as Executive Director. Also, Dr Mutallab, was the brain behind Sanusi's climb to position of MD, which was preparatory for his new role as CBN Govenor.
This is clear enough, and a well known fact.

Also, there are a number of questions Dr Mutallab will have to clarify, mainly with the higher powers that be (beyond nigeria), about his knowledge and possible connections with his son's activities, and a wider plot (which will unravel soon).

    1) What informed his sudden retirement, last week, as Chairman of First Bank? was he aware of some 'issues', and needed to leave the public scene quickly?

    2) How come he said in the first report this morning, that he had reported his son's extreme inclinations to the US police, whereas, he later claimed it was the nigerian police he made the reports to?

    3) Dr Muttallab happens to be married to a Yemeni wife (not the boy's mum) and the boy has informed the US authorities that the explosives were given to him in Yemen. Could this be mere coincidence?

    4) Also, there has been a sinister plot by some nigerians in a section of the country, which has led to the recent banking reforms. Key in that plot is Dr Mutallab and some eminent nigerians, including a former nigerian OPEC president, some arab financial goons, and of course the executor , Lamido Sanusi. The modus of the plot has long been known, but the extent, scope and ultimate direction of the plot is not fully known.

Only that, questions arise as to the ultimate goal of the plot. There is speculation in certain circles already about this wider 'plot' that could see our erstwhile First bank chairman (and maybe his protege, Sanusi) , fall into the US/CIA terrorist sponsor blacklist.

United States District Judge Paul D. Borman arraigned Mutallab last Saturday. Agency reports say he was in a wheelchair with handcuffs on one hand. He reportedly had a bandage on his left thumb and right wrists.

He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 if convicted.

    Default Fresh facts.

Fresh facts emerging on the alleged attempt by 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to blow up a passenger plane in the United States on Christmas day showed that the attempt would have been averted if the Yemeni government had not frustrated the attempts by the suspect's father, Alhaji Umar Mutallab to visit the country in search of his lost son.

Danladi-It remains a wonder, how the boy managed to pass all security agents,Abi na Al-qaeda Jazz?
I may wonder about other countries ,but not Nigeria,He simply offer N20 naira to the officers in Nigerian airport and they said, you are free to go and bomb any where, even our village.
