Amori community in Nkanu West Local Government area of Enugu State woke up last Saturday morning stunned with the discovery that all the seven members of a household in the village who went to bed the previous night had died.
The deceased were found dead by neighbours who became suspicious when no member of the family was seen or heard long after dawn.
The family of Mr John Ene, his wife, three of their children as well as two other relations with them in the house had reportedly gone to bed after dinner only to be found dead the next morning.
The cause of death was yet to be determined as at the time of this report while the police said it was waiting for the result of the autopsy.
A native of the community, who spoke with Daily Sun reporter in Enugu, described the incident as strange, as it had never happened in the area.
The source described the affected family as very peaceful and not involved in any kind of dispute, stating that the entire community was yet to recover from the shock.
The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the story, said there was no clue as to what led to the death of the entire family.
On the speculation that it might have been caused by food poisoning, the police spokesman said the command was waiting for an autopsy to know the cause of death.
