The Nigeria Police Force has said that it is not wasting its manpower to investigate the people behind the hoax bombing test messages, which caused panic in Lagos State.

The Force spokesman, Mr. Sola Amore, told our correspondent on the telephone that rather than engage in something that might later be termed political witchhunting, the police had decided to intensify its intelligence with the aim of nipping future act of terrorism in the bud.

“We have increased our radar to cover the entire country and we are leaving no stone unturned to prevent a repeat of the bombings,” Amore said.

He described the people behind the message as merchants of fear who were bent on destroying the peace in Lagos State.

“The people of Lagos State should ignore them and should be assured that the policemen in the state are doing everything to ensure their safety,” he said.

Also, the Plateau State Police Command has warned members of the public against rumour mongering and other actions that can fuel the embers of hatred among the people.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abdulrahman Akano, issued the warning in Jos, the state capital, on Thursday while chatting with newsmen.

He said that the warning became necessary due to reports filtering into the command that some people were planning to disturb the “hard-earned peace” in the state.

Akano said, “Our findings show that youths have been in the fore front of spreading such rumour through the usage of text messages with their mobile phones.

“I will advise Jos residents to ignore such text messages because we are on top of the situation.”

He advised those who received such messages to forward same to the police headquarters for investigation.

The police chief said that officers had been deployed to the field to investigate sources of such messages so as to unearth the mischief makers.
