A thirty year old woman is alleged to have been shot by an officer of the Nigeria Police Force in Mpape, a suburb of the nation's Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The incident which occurred at 7.45am when a taxi man tried making a turn in front of a commercial bank branch in the area has also left the driver of the taxi and two other passengers in the vehicle seriously injured.

Thousands of angry residents of the area who staged protest on the streets have also set the bank ablaze with properties worth millions of Naira destroyed.

It took over three hours for men of the Nigeria police force and men of the Nigerian Army to calm the situation

Meanwhile, the police commissioner in charge of the FCT, Mr John Haruna has confirmed that the police officer is in custody.
