Pockets of unrest persited in Benin, the Edo State capital, on Wednesday, as unidentified youths stormed the family home of embattled former Youth Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mr. Osakpanwa Eriyo, following the murder of two youths on Tuesday.

This is coming on the heels of the suspension of Eriyo from the state chapter of the ACN and his suspension as chairman of the Edo State Task Force on Anti Pipeline Vandalization.

His suspension was said to be in connection with an alleged attack on the Caretaker Chairman of Oredo Local Government, Mr. Ekpen Erediauwa.

Meanwhile, Governor Adams Oshiomhole visited the families of the two youths who were shot dead by thugs allegedly loyal to Eriyo over the killings in Benin.

The governor said he had ordered the Director of the State Security Service and the state Police Commissioner to investigate the matter and bring the culprits perpertuating killings in Benin to book.

The state ACN, through its Chairman, Thomas Okosun, said the party had expelled Eriyo from the party.

“We will not tolerate any form of hooliganism from any party member,” he said.

Also, the Edo state Police Command confirmed that 10 persons had been arrested over the killings in Benin while it urged Eriyo to come out of hiding to explain his role in the matter.

An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that he lost his ware to an inferno in the area.

The source said, “I run a shop in the building. My mother alerted me that there was crisis on Mission Road that I should close my shop, only for me to come back and meet the entire building razed. I could not recover anything including machines worth over hundred thousand and cloths.

“We have Hausa traders who also stay in the building. Everything was destroyed because people were even scared to pack their things when the youths came.

Oshiomhole, who spoke during his visit to the residence of Chief Arala Osula and the deceased families, said, “I am opposed to violence. I insist that anyone involved in it must be brought to justice. Yesterday, I ordered the police that they must arrest the perpetrators and prosecute whosoever is involved.”
We hope this incessant killings in Benin will end.
