The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Azubike Ihejirika says the security situation in the northern parts of Nigeria has improved.

Lt. General Ihejirika told journalists in Lagos on Monday that the Nigerian Army will not relent in its efforts to enhance internal security while protecting life and property.

Meanwhile, attackers armed with guns and machetes have killed six people in two separate raids in Plateau state.

The attacks took place after youths, stormed two Christian villages in the outskirts of Plateau's capital Jos.

Police spokesman, Apev Jacob says the attackers invaded Kai village near Kura Falls and killed five people, similarly at the same time Gohog village was also invaded, leaving one dead and 37 cattle rustled.

There have been frequent clashes between Christian and Muslim mobs in villages around Jos since a series of bombs were detonated during Christmas Eve celebrations in December, killing scores of people.
