The administrative block of Nigerian Telecommunications Limited [NITEL], Plateau territorial administrative headquarters in Jos, north central Nigeria was razed down by fire on Friday afternoon following the burning of dried grass within the premises.

Men of the Plateau State Fire service battled for more than three hours to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings mostly residential.

Eye witness account had it that a cleaner while cleaning the surroundings, gathered dried leaves in the compound and set fire on it before it consumed roles of cables kept within the premises, which later became uncontrollable until men of the Fire Service, the Military and Civil Defence Corps came to the rescue.

Confirming the cause of the fire, director of fire service, Plateau state command, Michael Dung says the fire outbreak was as a result of bush burning which eventually consumed the whole building.

He therefore appealed to citizens to desist from burning grasses within their houses without paying adequate attention, and to always contact the fire service whenever there is a fire outbreak.

Some of the offices affected in the inferno are the business office, the call centre, domestic satellite office and the engineers office while the exchange equipments were not affected.

The territorial manager, Engineer Bulus Dan Bauchi as at the time of filling this report, was not available for comments as he had travelled to the local government areas for supervision according to some staff at the scene of the incident
