Bandits struck at a petrol station in Asaba, Delta State, on Saturday night, killing two security guards attached to the station.

It was not, however, ascertained the magnitude of the theft at the station located at Cable Point axis of the town, but policemen were seen at the scene, yesterday, taking inventory.

The suspected thieves tied the hands of the guards to their back before inflicting deep matchet cuts all over their bodies.

Meanwhile, two persons have been arrested at Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State, for allegedly vandalizing cables belonging to the Power Holder Company Nigeria, PHCN.

The vandals, according to the Public Relations Officer of the PHCN, Asaba District office, Mrs. Esther Okolie, were arrested with the aid of the youths in the community, who apprehended and handed them over to the police.

She said, "PHCN Youths from Ogbenti-Obi apprehended two vandals this (yesterday) morning. So far 13 sub-stations have been vandalized out of 22sub-stations in Ogwashi-Uku. The total cost of vandalization is over N4 million in 2010 for Ibusa/Ogwashi-Uku axis, while the entire district has lost over N5m in 2010."

She therefore appealed to the communities "to help protect PHCN installations and transformers as we do not have vote for replacement."

Also commenting on the incident, State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Muka confirmed the arrest, warning that there is no hiding place for vandals and miscreants in the state.
