Daredevil gun men yesterday killed a Lagos based socialite and a popular car dealer, Alhaji Jabita Fafiu, 48, in his palatial home at Adeniyi Jones area of Ikeja, Lagos.

However, a family source argued that the deceased would have been revived, if the hospital, where he was promptly rushed to had quickly attended to him. The hospital was alleged to have demanded the sum of N2million before commencement of medications

Daily Champion gathered that the gun men, suspected to be assassins, stormed the palatial home of the popular car dealer and hotelier at about 3 am, and gruesomely murdered him in cold blood. He allegedly bled to death.

The masked assailants, numbering about five, were alleged to have gained access into the deceased home, at 4 Siyabola Close, residence by scaling the high perimeter fencing surrounding the home.

Eye witness said the gunmen, after gaining entry into the building, purportedly tied the guard before cutting the iron bar protector of the main entrance, leading to the sitting room.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspects first met the deceased's brother, Tunji, and dragged him to the sitting room. They asked him, at gun point, to show them 'his madam's room'. We further gathered that out of curiosity, Jabita who apparently overheard the noise, decided to come downstairs, to ascertain the cause of the commotion, only for the robbers to order him to lie face down.

While some of them were with their victims in the sitting room, others reportedly ransacked Jabita's wife's room where they collected her expensive jewelries.

Our reporter learnt that, one of them attacked Jabita, stabbing him with a knife, leading to his shouting to alert people. He was reportedly dragged downstairs towards the balcony before they left with their loots.

Jabita was reportedly rushed to a near by hospital on Awolowo Way, Ikeja.(names with held), where a sum of 2 million, advance payment was allegedly demanded before treatment.

Narrating his experience, Tunji Jabita , younger brother of the deceased said: "We begged the nurses until they said we should go and get the sum of N700,000 before they would commence treatment. When we left to get the money, they had commenced treatment by fixing drip on him. If they had attended to him earlier, before requesting for money, my uncle would have lived to tell the story. He bled to death"

A senior police officer at the command headquarters, Ikeja said the commissioner of Police has directed officers of Anti Robbery Squad SARs to fish out the culprits.

The officer who prayed for anonymity said the commissioner has briefed the senior officers on the need for proactive policing.

It is recalled that armed robbery suspects recently killed a London returnee Kunle Akonda who just returned for the burial ceremony of his late mother.. Many others have been killed by gun men and assassins in recent times. The incidents confirm that the rate of crime waves in the city has gone so high.
