In case you have forgotten, Yimebe Joi Nunieh is one of the most powerful women in Rivers State. The latest gist about the popular Port Harcourt big girl, who is on board of Sigma Pensions and also a member of the River State Economic Advisory Council, will tie the nuptial knots with Segun Okunnu, who is into private business. Yimebe ranks among the leading flower girls of the high society.
From the very popular and rich Nunieh family of Ogoni land in Rivers State, her father, Chief Gbene Saros Nuneih, is a notable Ogoni high chief and an elder statesman. Everything about Yimebe screams class. The Managing Partner of Nunieh & Nunieh, a thriving law firm, she represented Ogoni 21 and eventually secured their release, leading to her being popularly called “The Ogoni 21 lawyer” in the state.
She has also successfully represented some local and international communities in environmental matters. As a human rights activist and environmental crusader, she was the lead counsel in the petition brought by the Ogoni people, the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), the late Ken Saro-Wiwa and other families at the Justice Chukwudifu Oputa-led Human Rights Violation Investigation Commission (Oputa Panel).
She was once married with two children but the marriage curiously packed up. When the news went round about her new romance with Segun, many of her friends were very happy for her. The new love birds were sighted together, especially during Helen Ajayi's 50th birthday party. Though a hush-hush affair, we gathered that the union would be solemnized today in Port Harcourt.
