Historic winners of this year’s Nigeria Federation Cup, Kaduna United, have now set their sights on ruling Africa next year by winning the CAF Confederation Cup.
“This is the first time that a team from Kaduna State is winning a major honour. We have now tasked the team to go all out to win the CAF Confederation Cup next year,” the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Ramalan Yero, told MTNFootball.com shortly after the team’s epic victory in Kano at the weekend.
“The government will support to ensure this target is met. For the Federation Cup final, the government set up a committee to mobilise support for the team, and now that Kaduna United will play international football, we will definitely have a committee to ensure they win the Confederation Cup.”
Kaduna United chairman, Sabo Babayaro, also declared the team, who finished in mid_table in the Nigeria Premier League last season, will be the team to beat in the coming season with the continued support from the government.
He also hailed the contribution of Belgian coach, Maurice Cooreman, to the success of the club.
“I respect Cooreman for his technical ability, his honesty and charisma. Since he came to the club, only fit and disciplined players always made his final team,” said Babayaro.
“Even though he did not recruit this team because he had to sort out his immigration papers during the last pre_season, he has gone on to change the fortunes of the club.
“What then would happen when he will be fully involved in the whole exercise for the new season? I am confident we can win the Premier League crown.”Cooreman has already won the league title with Ocean Boys and Enyimba.
