    Default Nigerian Football;Politics and Politickings.

One can hardly rate the progression in the Nigerian football, especially the local league and the senior National team.

The climax was at Atlanta 96 where we won Gold.
Before then, we had won the African Nations cup at Tunisia 94, and had performed creditably at USA 94 to the delight of FIFA.
Back then, Coach westerhof was given the free hand to select and field whatever players he wanted.
There was no interference from NFF or sports Ministry.
The story has changed drastically, because at France 98, we only managed to scale through to the second round, only to be send packing by Denmark with a 4-1 trashing.
At Korea Japan 2002, we only managed one goal, two losses and a draw, before we were sent packing.
We failed to qualify for Germany 2006, and now we are hanging dangerously on our way to South Africa,no wonder some of them cried after the qualification match against Kenya.

The root cause of the entire rot in our football is politics and unnecessary interference by Government in the running of our football.
It has even started affecting our flying eagles and golden eaglet.
Female football has been thrown to the dust bin, and if and only if Nigeria eventually qualifies for South Africa, you will surely see a retinue of Government official ranging from local, state and federal government trooping down to enjoy themselves and collect fat estacode, while the main issues affecting our sports are left unattended to.
Its a pity that Nigeria has continued to slide in FIFA ranking, and yet millions of Naira is been spent yearly to run football without accountability.
How can the Government expect private individual, firms and blue chip companies to invest in football and other sports, when there is no transparency and accountability.Infact there is an ongoing talk now ,that Globacom have withdrawn from the sponsorship and would you blame them?.
Elections into NFF and NFL has become so political, that if you are not government sponsored, just forget about ever winning.Talk about the unending factions that is complicating elections, one election will be holding in Kano and another in Lagos.
Its even more painful to realize that Politics has finally marred the local league in Nigeria Football,Cllub points are manipulated to prevent relegation. What more can we not say.

It is for real ,not a rumour ,Glo has pulled out ,because they discoverd that some officials are not interested in the interest of National football ,but of personal gains.
