Taiwo to leave Marseille

Nigeria international Taye Taiwo has put the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham on high alert after revealing that he will not be signing a new contract at Marseille.

Taiwo, 25, is available on a free transfer at the end of the season as his contract at OM ends in the summer. The powerful left-back has been attracting attention for his displays in Ligue 1 and will be even more desirable given that he will not require a transfer fee, but claims that he is already in talks with an unnamed European club.

"I have made the decision not to sign a contract extension. I want to change clubs in June," Taiwo was quoted as saying by The Nation. "My agent and I are in advanced talks with a club from one of Europe's top three leagues and I expect to reach an agreement in the near future."

The defender also claimed that Marseille coach Didier Deschamp is treating him differently now that he has chosen to move on.

"Because I said I want to leave, the coach now decides when to use me. That doesn't bother me. I have made up my mind and I have told them I'm going," he said. "For now, I will not reveal it [the club he's leaving for]. When time comes, you guys will hear about it.''

Taiwo joined Marseille from Lobi Stars in January 2005 and has been linked with moves to Man City, Juventus and Milan as well as Liverpool and Spurs.
