Nigeria’s Premier League leading scorer, Ehiosun Ekigho of Warri Wolves who scored Nigeria’s second goal in Wednesday friendly game with Sierra Leone has become the 58th Nigerian international to find the net in first appearance.
His goal came in the second minute of added time in the first half came off a cross from another debutant, Joel Obi. Ekigho whose seven goals in the domestic league has taken him to the top of the chart had given an indication of what should be expected from him when he scored an hattrick in the 3-0 demolition of Sharks last Sunday.
Incidentally, he credited his new found form to the technical input of Coach Samson Siasia and his assistance, Simon Kalika, who polished him up during the training sessions with the domestic players.
Ekhigo came in midway in the first half for another debutant, Emmanuel Emenike. He thus joins the rank of other notable Nigerian players Obafemi Martins, Finidi George, Uche Okechukwu, Thompson Usiyan and Matthias Obianika among others who scored in the very first time they played for Nigeria.

The last time Nigeria presented the full compliment of its national team in Lagos was 10 years ago in an African Nations Cup qualifier. Victor Agali, having his first cap, scored the solitary goal of the encounter.
Obafemi Martins was also a scoring debutant when he found the net in Nigeria’s 3-0 demolition of Republic of Ireland in a friendly game on May 29, 2004 in London. Last night's game was the first Grade A match of the arena that was opened on May 27, 2007, has shot Taiwo into the record books. He is the first player to score in a Grade A match at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
