Who is the highest paid player in the world of football in 2011? The answer is
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, according to a survey by France Football Magazine. The Argentinian, who is considered by many to be the best player in the
game, has won the Ballon d’Or for the past two years.
Messi will reportedly earn a whopping €31 million in 2011, which comes from publicity deals and as Barcelona's star player. Real Madrid's Cristiano
Ronaldo now comes in as the second highest-paid footballer with €27.5 million a year. At third is Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney who gets €20.7
million a year.
Two football players in America have also made the top-twenty list; David Beckham of the LA Galaxy at €19 million and Thierry Henry of the New York Red
Bulls at €13.6 million. Beckham is ranked fifth in terms of earnings while Henry is in eleventh place.
Football managers were also surveyed. France Football Magazine found the top paid manager to be Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho who earns €13.5 million
a year. The former Chelsea manager has recently expressed how much he misses England and has vowed that once he leaves Madrid, he will attempt to
reclaim his presence in English football. Whilst managing Inter Milan, Mourinho led the team to Champions League, Serie A and the Coppa Italia wins. Real
Madrid recruited him to manage the team last summer and have now reached the last eight of the UEFA Champions League.
Pep Guardiola of Barcelona came in at second earning €10.5 million a year. Rafael Benitez, the most recent former manager of Inter Milan, came in at third
with earnings amounting to €10.2 million a year. England's Fabio Capello came in at fourth at €8.5 million a year.

Manchester United came in third.
