Default I'm Still Eagles' Chief Coach - Said Shuaibu Amodu.

Erstwhile Eagles coach, Shaibu Amodu, made a dramatic return to the scene yesterday and declared that he was still the chief coach of Nigeria despite being 'demoted' by his employers, Nigeria Football Federation, after his bronze medal outing at the Nations Cup in Angola.

The coach who was armed with his contract papers butressed his point with sections of his contract and also claimed that the home-based team he was purportedly demoted to was indeed under his supervision as the chief coach of the Eagles.

"I decided to cool off after the tension and pressure of the Nations Cup. I am still the chief coach of Nigeria's male senior national team and under the contract I am still going to the World Cup with the team", the coach said, chewing his famous gum, a habit he started in Angola to ease pressure.

Quoting relevant sections of his contract to back up his claim, Amodu said that the issue of hiring a foreign Technical Adviser was "irrevocable" in his contract and he had nothing against hiring one.

"Article 1:2:6 states that I will work under a Technical Adviser anytime the NFA decides to have one.

Ariticle 1:5 in the contract I signed with NFA also states that the senior national team or other national teams (Team B) shall be under the supervision of the Chief Coach. I wonder how I can be demoted to a team which is under my supervision".

The former BCC Lions of Gboko coach said that as long as he was concerned he had met the targets set by his employers - getting to the semi final of the Nations Cup and qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup. "I came back with a bronze medal and Nigeria is number 15 in the world in

FIFA ranking and number two in Africa. I worked under intense pressure at the Nations Cup with all manner of distractions. They were interviewing coaches right under my nose when we still had matches to play in the Nations Cup. I think we should move ahead and get our preparations under gear instead of dissipating much energy on nothing. I'll obey my contract to the letter", the coach emphasised.
