Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State presented the Benue State 2012 Budget proposal of N105.5bn to the state House of Assembly.

According to Suswam, N59.95bn is expected from the Federation Account, N15.2bn would be generated internally and the state hoped to raise additional N30.3bn revenue from other sources.

In the Benue State 2012 Budget , capital expenditure accounts for 46 per cent of the total estimate, personnel cost is 36 per cent, while overhead cost will account for 18 per cent. Under the sectorial allocation, works and transport has the highest allocation of N17.2bn, water and environment gets N4.5bn, agriculture gets N3bn, education gets N2.5bn, rural development gets N4.5bn, health and human services gets N1.7bn, among others.

The governor said that the construction of about 5 to 7km roads is projected in the budget in each of the states 23 local governments. Speaking after the presentation, Speaker Dave Iorhemba expressed the willingness of the House to support the executive to develop the state.
