Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti has presented a budget estimate of over N98 billion to the Ekiti State House of Assembly for the 2012 fiscal year.

Tagged "Budget of Delivery", it proposed over N53 billion for capital projects while over N45 billion is earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

The infrastructure takes the lion's share of over N25 billion, representing 26 per cent of the budget estimate while education followed with over N19 billion and the health sector takes N8 billion.

Presenting the budget at the newly-commissioned ultra-modern House of Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti, Fayemi said the budget wa aimed at completing ongoing capital projects and that it also incorporated requests of people of the state in line with the eight-point agenda of his administration.

Fayemi, who assured full implementation of the budget to improve the lots of Ekiti citizens disclosed that one billion naira would be expended on the continuation of the social security scheme for the elderly in the state.

According to him, the N20 billion bond recently raised from the capital market by the State Government will be expended on the provision of roads and completion of other ongoing capital projects across the 16 council areas in the state.

Fayemi, noted that the budget was packaged in a realisable way to give economic direction to the state and add value to the lives of Ekiti citizens.

Speaking on the new House of Assembly, which commenced under the administration of former governor, Segun Oni, Fayemi hinted that the Assembly Complex would offer more convenience to the lawmakers and enhance effective performance of their statutory duties to the people.

It is recalled that the new Assembly complex has 52 sitting capacity within the Hallowed Chambers and 78 offices for lawmakers and other public officers of the House.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Omirin, gave an assurance that the budget would be adequately monitored to ensure full compliance in its implementation
