ONDO State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akin Adaramola, yesterday said that this year’s budget would be presented by the middle of this month.
For several years, the state government had been consistent in the presentation of its budget on or before the last working day of the out-going year while the documents always take effect at the beginning of the new fiscal year.
But unlike before, this year’s budget has not been presented by the governor, giving room to insinuations from opposition political camps that the government may be encountering problems because of alleged failure of last year’s fiscal plan.
Adaramola, however, debunked the insinuations, saying the delay was caused by the recent re-ordering of last year’s budget, which was targeted at having maximum output from the fiscal plan.
Explaining the reasons in his office, Adaramola said the 2012 budget has not been presented because the government wanted a proper utilisation of the re-ordered budget passed by the lawmakers towards the end of 2011.
He stated that since the 2011 budget was re-ordered to move funds from the under-performing headings to the hyper-performing ones, there was the need for the government to ensure proper implementation of the budget.
