Default Gov Sheriff's Hope to Impose Brother for 2011 Dashed

Maiduguri — THE Much talked about rumours that governor Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno state has concluded plan to impose his brother Alhaji Mala Sheriff as his successor in 2011 hits a brick wall after the ANPP Stakeholders in Borno met at the government House Maiduguri yesterday.

The meeting which was convened at the instances of the governor, vanguard gathered attracted the political office holders such as Senators, House of Representatives and House of Assembly members, former local government chairmen, local government ANPP executives among others.

Sheriff who personally chaired the meeting it was gathered, asked stakeholders whether they are in support of the recent ANPP NEC Meeting in Abuja, in which, it was resolved that a candidate should emerge through consensus rather than through the primaries.

A source who was part of the meeting but did not want his name in the print hinted that virtually all members insisted that there must be a primary elections for all elective positions as enshrined in the party's constitution in the state, or else the party will start to witness massive defection.

The source also added that, the meeting which was supposed to take place three days ago, was cancelled as the governor only kept mute when he addressed the stakeholders. It was learnt that 70% of the delegates were against the governors move.

Following fears of mass defection from the party , the governor has declared that any card carrying member of the party is free to contest any position come 2011.
