Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, has been accused of playing politics with the wave of sponsored abduction of his political opponents in the state.

The Pro National Conference Organisation (PRONACO) made the allegation in a press statement signed by Mr. Olubori Obafemi, Media Assistant to the spokesman PRONACO.

PRONACO made this allegation after a meeting of its leaders in Lagos on Saturday, in reaction to the abduction of Mrs Comfort Ewang, wife of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Group Captain Sam Ewang.

Sam Ewang, who flew the flag of the ANPP in the 2007 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State is a chieftain of the mega party initiative.

According to the release, a chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Olawale Okunniyi, said the entire progressive and pro democracy movements in Nigerian, “will storm Akwa Ibom State next week to demand for the release of Mrs Ewang from the state governor, who has been on the trail of Ewang and other opposition leaders in the state.”

The statement read further, “Outside reliable intelligence reports, Ewang has also hinted us several times at meetings of the Mega Summit Movement (MSM) which he serves as South-south coordinator of the diabolic plan of Mr. Godswill Akpabio and his nest of abductors to kidnap his wife and how he has foiled those attempts on different occasion.

“So, it is now very clear to us that the abduction of Mrs Ewang by men of the underworld is politically sponsored by Gov Godswill Akpabio to scuttle the political aspiration of the opposition forces in the state, which smack off political intolerance and wickedness.”

But the Commissioner for Information in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, in an interview with the Nigerian Compass yesterday said that the allegation, “is senseless and politically illogical.”

He said that the state government has already tasked security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators of Mrs. Ewang’s adbuction.

He said, “It is senseless and politically stupid. The person in question is no threat to the government, in their wild allegation. Go and look at the figure of the 2007 election results in the state, the man (Ewang) did not come anywhere close. He is not a factor in Akwa Ibom State politics and it is fully why people will want to make a political capital out of a misfortune.”
