Default Imo State uncovers 194 ghost teachers

Following a Biometric Staff Audit of all primary school teachers in Imo State, about 194 of them have been discovered to be ghost workers.

This was disclosed to the Governor, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim by Mr. Dan Okehi, of Brickred Consult, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Owerri where he submitted the audit report. Okehi said that out of the 15,860 teachers that filled the biometric form, only 14,363 were found to be authentic members of staff of the state Universal Basic Education, while 194 were non-existence, yet taking salaries.

The consultant said that with the findings, Imo State Government would be saving N6,555,344m every month.

Okehi said out of the lot, 162 were discovered to have forged certificates, while those aged 58 and above were about 1,000.

He said after the exercise which took four months, his company recommended that there should be a data base for Local Government Education System in the state, adding that a clear organigram should be drawn for the Local Government Education Authority to avoid excess staff, pointing out that government should introduce incentives to enable teachers to operate within and outside the rural areas.

This is a welcome development, congratulations to the Imo State Government.I do hope they repeat this exercise at another instance in time.

Citizens cheating themselves and blaming the government.
