SOME unknown gunmen Thursday stormed the house of former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Kazeem Ayilara, killing one policeman and a guard.
Ayilara was among the eight suspended lawmakers against Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala’s style of governance.
His head was broken during the attack. He was rushed to the hospital.
The house of the Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Mohammed Inakoju, was also attacked at Ogbere-Tioya, Adeyemo, Ibadan.
The gunmen were said to have first visited his house before attacking Ayilara’s house at Kuola, Apata, Ido Local Government.
Inakoju was an anti-Alao-Akala lawmaker.
Last week, suspected gunmen reportedly attacked one of the suspended anti-Akala lawmakers, Hon. Michael Okulade, at his residence in Bashorun Akobo, Ibadan.
At Ayilara’s house, the window louvers and walls had bullet holes.
Conducting reporters round the ransacked house, Ayilara said the gunmen threatened to kill him if he failed to open the door.
He said: "I heard gunshots around 2.30am and they were asking: ‘where is the Honourable?’ When I stood up, they started firing into my room. If I had not stood up, the bullets would have hit me on my bed.
They had already killed one policeman and one OPC member and they threatened to kill the second policeman if I refused to open the door.
"I did not have any option than to open the door.
They came in and hit my head with their gun. One of them told me that somebody had already paid for my life."
The policeman, identified as Samuel Sule, was said to have been disarmed by the gunmen and dragged into the lawmaker’s Toyota four-wheel drive with registration number (Lagos) KA 956 AAA.
He was reportedly shot at close range.
The vehicle had blood stains and the house was riddled with bullets.
The late guard’s name was given as Mutiu Raimi. He was reportedly shot in the head.
The second guard, identified as Shittu Jimoh, had his nose chopped off by a bullet. He is hospitalised.
Police Commissioner, Mr Adisa Baba Bolanta, confirmed the attack Thursday.
He described the killing of the policeman as wicked.
He said efforts were on to arrest the gunmen.
Bolanta said the police would recover items stolen from the lawmakers. Among them was a pump action machine gun, among other weapons the hoodlums used during the attack.
