Two Lagos based commercial banks, Skye and Zenith Bank on Monday redeemed their pledges to the Lagos State Government by donating N100 million to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
They donated N50 million each to the security outfit as part of their contribution to eradication of crime in Lagos State.
Presenting the money to the Lagos State Government, Managing Director, Skye Bank, Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi Etti said his bank visited to redeem what was pledged at the last stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos.
He described the N50 million as a lot of money, but a token when compared to the enormous amount needed in the fund to make the state safer.
Managing Director Zenith Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele thanked Fashola for providing enabling environment for banks and other corporate organisations to do business in the state adding that the N50 million was what was pledged during the last stakeholders’ meeting.
In his response, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola thanked the banks for partnering with the state, stressing that it was cheaper to continue to support the fund through contribution than to start the fund all over again.
He acknowledged that investment in the security of the state had engendered drastic reduction in the level of crime adding that the state must invest more than what criminals are willing to spend to be able to overtake them and that no investment will be too much to make the state safer for all.
He called on all corporate organisations and individuals to continue to support the state through generous contribution to the state.
Speaking at the event, Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Mr. Fola Arthur-Worrey acknowledged the contribution of Etti during LSSTF’s board meeting adding that his contribution has made significant impart in what the fund has achieved till date and thanked the banks, noting that their continued partnership with the LSSTF since inception is nothing but an attestation to the level of trust reposed in the LSSTF.
