Adamawa State government has earmarked N70, 935, 654, 015.00 for the 2011 fiscal year. Announcing the budget breakdown, the State Commissioner for Finance, Daniel Kiri, said the proposal had been presented to Adamawa State House of Assembly for consideration and final approval.

Tagged, "The budget of hope," the breakdown showed that the subvention to boards and parastatals was the highest budgetary allocation with N11, 942,947,425, which represents 16.84 per cent.

Following is the Ministry of Works and Transport, which has an allocation of N7,996,465,536 (11.27 per cent). Kiri further disclosed the state government has completed the necessary arrangements with the World Bank and the appropriate authorities to secure a foreign loan to the tune of $50 million (N7.5 billion).

He said the loan would be used in the execution of road projects across the state.

According to Kiri, N2 billion will be expended on the 35km Kiri/Shelleng road; N1 billion on 23km Michika/Kamale road; 21Km Dumne road at the cost of N1 billion; Chouchi bridge/105km on Karlahi Mapoe road N1 billion; Sebore-Tola road 40Km N1billion and N1.5 billion for rehabilitation of Jimeta-Yola water treatment plant.

The commissioner disclosed that the "government under joint account programme with state and local government councils will also embark on the construction of 10km roads in each of the 21 councils of the state towards an even development."

As part of the fiscal policy measures, Kiri said the budget is designed to advocate result-oriented services and activities aimed at poverty reduction with emphasis on food and job creation, adding that the skill acquisition programme and agricultural training schools, which encompass the major fields of specialization of the state would continue to draw utmost priority of government.
