GOVERNOR Bukola Saraki of Kwara State has presented a budget proposal of N68.6 billion with Infrastructural development anchored on road construction and maintenance taking the highest position.

Presenting the budget the Governor said that, " I wish to note that the 2011 budget that is being proposed to you this morning will seek to build on the 2010, which focus is to ensure that all on-going projects and policy commitments are completed and met within the shortest possible time that is left as we enter the final months of the administration. As Mr. Speaker is aware, the 2011 budget will only be partially implemented by my administration. Therefore, it is imperative that we take off on a sound and clear footing to guarantee that the in-coming government takes off effectively."

He added that, "I wish to note that the economic and fiscal environment in which the 2011 budget will be implemented will not be significantly different from that of the 2010 budget. We have therefore taken the usual care in ensuring that the budget proposal that we are presenting is anchored on determinable revenue profile, while accounting for our various loans and bonds commitments."

The governor reviewed the 2010 budget with the achievements recorded by his administration in the provision of infrastructure road networks, construction of aviation college , energy provision, sports and youth development, health development, water supply and sundry sectoral developments in transportation, agriculture, commerce and cooperatives, educational like the establishment of the Kwara State University at Malete.

He also assured that his administration would consolidate on the upgrading and reticulation of the Asa Dam water works and continue to improve its capacity to deliver potable water to towns and villages across the state. consequently, 2011 will focus on acceleration of pipe network projects in Ilorin metropolis, installation of power surge control in some waterworks to curb high voltage electricity, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the on -going (9) water works and procurement of additional water treatment chemicals. Also, the Rural Water Supply Sanitation Agency will be in the rural areas.

As part of the strategy for the overall development of the state on the land allocation and utilization, the administration would continue to encourage private initiative by making well serviced residential, commercial and industrial plots readily available to the people. The government will ensure that greater percentage of revenue realized from land transaction is ploughed back into further layout development. This will assist the state in its planning for residential, commercial and industrial development and boost our internally generated revenue.

He said his administration would focus on the development of the "Greater Ilorin Master Plan" to ensure that development and expansion of the capital city into the future is carefully controlled.

In keeping with the Government to maintain the dignity and respect for the judiciary, he said the government intended to complete the construction of Chief Judge and other Judges quarters, started in the current year, as well as that of the Grand Khadi and others. Khadis.

Receiving the budget, the Speaker of the State House of Asse, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed eulogized the Governor and described the budget as people-oriented and consolidation.
