The governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday, signed the N80.1 billion 2011 budget of the state into law, saying the ceremony marked the “commencement of actual performance of execution, of implementation of government projects and programmes.”

Governor Fayemi, at a ceremony held at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, said the 2011 budget was “a significant shift in what normally is a budget that is heavily on the recurrent and low on capital expenditure” in the state following its adjustment to tilt more to the execution of capital projects in the state.

He said the original budget of N74.5 billion was reviewed to N80.1 billion comprising “N36,598,869,039, the equivalent of 45.5 per cent of the entire budget going to recurrent expenditure and the capital expenditure in the budget stands at N44,180,244,061 and that makes up 54.5 per cent of the budget.”

The governor stated that, “given our priorities and focus on infrastructural development, on modernising agriculture, on improving on human capital development and industrial sector development, we felt it was important to tilt the priorities this time to the capital side.”
