DETERMINED to increase employment opportunities in the state, Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State will, on Tuesday, flag off the training of over 24,750 youths across the 33 local government areas of the state.
The training programme, which would involve a minimum of 750 unemployed youths in each of the local councils, would be tailored in the art of turning some agricultural waste products to valuable products.
The state Ministry of Establishment, Poverty Alleviation and Training had, last Wednesday, commenced a similar training programme where 1, 000 youths are now being trained in various trades to make them self-employed, self-reliant and also to be able to train others.
Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan on Friday, Mr Festus Alade of NATFES Consult, said that the training programme was organised by the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the state chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).
He said that the state deputy governor, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, would flag off the training, while the wife of the governor, Chief (Mrs) Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, would be the chairperson at the ground turning event taking place at Premier Hotel, Ibadan by 11 am.
