Kenya Airways will increase it weekly flights on the Nairobi-Lagos route.
This follows a decision by the Nigerian government to grant KQ permission to fly 14 times a week to the country’s commercial capital and another four per week to Abuja, the country’s seat of power.
Kenya Airways - KQ chief executive Titus Naikuni said the airline was working out modalities before commencing the flights.
“We are very grateful to the Nigerian government and Prime Minister Raila Odinga who helped make this possible. We also thank Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka who also put in a good word for us,” Mr Naikuni said.
Mr Naikuni expressed optimism that traffic between Nairobi and Lagos which currently stands at between 100 and 150 passengers a day would increase significantly following the rise in the number of flights.
“Traffic is built on suitability, if passengers know they can catch connecting flights in Nairobi, they will use Kenya Airways as their preferred airline,” said Mr Naikuni.
